Melissa has over 30 years of experience under her belt and a passion to serve her community. Her professional career has included family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery and radiation oncology since completing her Physician Assistant degree at Trevecca Nazarene University in 1992. She and her husband are serving at Seymour FBC and love serving others through various venues. 




At Home Treatment for Viral Infections

Recommended by Melissa Watson, PA-C

Fluids

  • 24-30oz every hour 

Movement

  • change positions ever 15 minutes (sit, stand, walk, lay on stomach)
  • breathe very deep (like blowing out a candle, coughing, or blowing up balloons)
  • when sleeping, wake every hour to move

Over the Counter Medication

  • Robitussin (no letters)- double dose if your stomach can tolerate 
  • Alka seltzer Cold & Sinus
  • Vicks Vapo-rub or Watkins Mentholatum  
  • Vit D 5000 IU daily
  • Zinc 15mg daily
  • Vit C 200mg daily
  • 1 Baby Aspirin daily
  • Oscillococcinum 
  • Hydrogen Peroxide- Use 1/4 cup in a vaporizer
  • Apple Cider Vinegar- Capsules, Gummies, or in tea (see recipe below)

Saline Nasal Rinse

  • Use every 1-2 hours and blow gently
  • You may use peroxide in nasal spray: To use hydrogen peroxide, mix four parts filtered water with one part 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • Irrigate the nose using a spray bottle or neti pot

Food and drink

  • HOT tea
  • HOT soup 
  • Cooked onions, chicken, any vegetables
  • Chinese hot and sour soup
  • French onion soup

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar 
  • Sugar/Stevia to taste
  • 1/4 Tsp ground ginger OR
  • 1 Tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 cup Water 

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a jar or glass. 
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. 
  • Shake or stir before serving. 
  • If using fresh ginger, strain through a sieve. 
  • Pour over ice and serve. Also tastes great warm!
